The injury comeback tale for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow received an interesting twist on Friday.
Burrow took a cart ride with Bengals president Mike Brown.
Now, Brown being out there on a golf cart is a mostly daily occurrence and has been for a long time. But it is a rarity to see players actually get to take a ride on said cart.
What makes this especially interesting is that Burrow dressed for practice on Thursday but didn’t partake. He dressed again on Friday and did more throwing than the day prior — after taking the ride with Brown, which seemed to last a while as they conversed about something.
Needless to say, this had Bengals fans and media perplexed, creating some hilarious reactions.
During team stretches today—#Bengals Owner Mike Brown:
Drove his golf cart to Joe Burrow.
Picked him up.
Had a conversation.
Drove a circle.
Then dropped Joe back off, so he could finish stretching.@WCPO pic.twitter.com/c5ieasEsaF— Caleb Noe (@CalebNoeTV) September 22, 2023
This was definitely interesting … this doesn’t happen on an every day basis by the way https://t.co/FrRT128dcy

Joe Mixon hopped on Mike's cart after signing his extension in 2020, but they didn't drive in circles.
One one time several years back Mike told @pauldehnerjr to jump on and gave him a ride from the stadium to practice fields during training camp. https://t.co/YKOPY3t53w— Jay Morrison (@ByJayMorrison) September 22, 2023
The circular 40-second cart ride Mike Brown gave Joe Burrow in the middle of Friday's stretch is one of the more hilariously surreal moments of the last 3 seasons.

Guarantee you he told Burrow that he’s not playing Monday. Didn’t look happy getting off the cart. https://t.co/IoKOqf9EXV

I can't stop watching this Joe Burrow golf cart ride with Bengals owner Mike Brown. Much clearer view here. Burrow definitely makes a face after Brown tells him whatever he told him #Bengalshttps://t.co/hzyFhKB7xF pic.twitter.com/bbvL7jbxYA

I'm no body language expert, but Joe Burrow didn't look overly thrilled getting off that golf cart.
Looks like Mike Brown did all the talking and Burrow nodded in agreement with whatever was said https://t.co/eD7DT41KHF

Agile move by Burrow here, hopping off the cart while it’s still moving.
I’ve tried this many times while golfing, and I can confirm, this is not as easy as it looks, especially if you have a few miller lites in ya 🤣 https://t.co/4qM8va8Mwv

While we are over analyzing the video, how about Burrow getting out of the cart and planting on his right leg as the cart was still moving (albeit slightly). https://t.co/epmA6fpXbI

The video with he and Mr. Brown has me worried. Looked like a guy that was just told he was not playing on Monday. Burrow hops off the cart before it’s even stopped 😔

There should be a rule against posting "Joe Burrow" and "cart" for bengals media if it's not injury related lol

Was it the IR talk? Burrow looked unhappy when he got off the cart https://t.co/1l4cKAWxLy

I didn't have "zoom in, rewind, and fast forward 100 times to assess the possible degree of grimacing from Joe Burrow getting off a golf kart" as a Friday afternoon activity…but here we are pic.twitter.com/PM7YQlBRRv

Joe, we want you to be the best version of yourself and getting to that point means sacrificing the now. Be smart and get yourself better. Have a feeling it went something like that

49ers fan here.
It's in the franchise's best interest to protect Joe Burrow.
Joe's a competitor. He's going to play whenever he can. He will like many athletes try to play through injuries.
Playing through smaller injuries can lead to bigger injuries and being unable to play.

“Joe, this right here is a picture of Greg Cook. You’ve never heard of him because he ruined his career trying to play through injury when he should’ve rested”
— KaladinCB (@KaladinCB) September 22, 2023
Hopefully that was a “I know you want to be out there but don’t rush back” type of conversation.

Mixon has said several times that Mike Brown will talk to him, not just as a player, but as a human being that he's concerned about. Many players have echoed the same. Regardless of what our opinions are about how Mike ran the team in past decades, he seems like a good ol' dude.
