Joe Burrow Explains Why He Wore Wrist Wrap Ahead of Thursday Night Injury

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will undergo surgery on his injured right wrist and will miss the rest of the season.

Burrow initially left Thursday’s loss to Baltimore with a sprained wrist, but an MRI on Friday indicated that the injury was worse than anticipated.

Separately, reports circulated on Friday that the NFL was looking into whether or not Cincinnati circumvented league injury report rules when Burrow was seen with a brace on his arm getting off the team plane..

“This is a completely different thing,” Burrow said when asked about the brace. “It’s not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on the plane. When you go up to that altitude, things can swell up. This is a completely new injury.”

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback discussed his wrist injury and the brace he was spotted in ahead of Thursday night’s game at the Baltimore Ravens.

Burrow noted that he had a feeling his injury was serious when he “felt a pop” on his touchdown pass to running back Joe Mixon.

“After the game, I kind of had a feeling,” Burrow noted when asked if he thought he was seriously injured.

The Bengals dropped to 5—5 on the season with the loss in Baltimore on Thursday, and now face an uphill battle to playoff contention with backup Jake Browning set to replace Burrow in the lineup.

To Browning’s credit, he played quite well in a difficult situation on Thursday, completing 8-of-14 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Bengals host the Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 26.
