The NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights took home the franchise’s first NHL title, a hasty feat for the league’s newest team.
Las Vegas has had much to celebrate in sports over the last few years as Sin City has quickly acquired sports franchises like the NFL’s Raiders, while being close to poaching the MLB’s Oakland Athletics.
It also saw its first title last year from the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, whose star A’ja Wilson is considered one of the league’s best players. Wilson was celebrating the Golden Knights’ victory on social media, but then noticed a tweet from President Joe Biden that rubbed her the wrong way.

The POTUS congratulated the Golden Knights on Twitter on Wednesday, June 14, calling them “The first major professional franchise” to win a title in the city.
Wilson, who is known for being actively comedic on Twitter, responded within an hour asking for her team’s White House visit for winning the 2022 WNBA title while posting a GIF of someone appearing irked.
Wilson and her team celebrated their championship, the city's first for any professional sport, in the fall of 2022. They are also the betting favorite to win the WNBA title this year.

The defense for Biden’s tweet is that in technical terms, the four ‘major’ sports leagues, which Biden was referring to, are the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. However, this leaves out any women’s professional league, many of which are newer than their male counterparts but are quickly growing.
Biden has yet to respond to Wilson as of this writing.
