Joe Aribo found himself in familiar unfamiliar territory for Southampton on Wednesday night. The former Rangers star filled in as an emergency striker during the final weeks of his Ibrox career, providing fans with a moment to remember with the opening goal in the Europa League Final.
He then completed a £10million transfer to the Premier League and has since been settling into his new home. Aribo emerged from the bench as Saints beat Ligue 1 side Monaco in a friendly, making an instant impact as he crossed for Stuart Armstrong to net a second for Ralph Hasenhuttl's side.
Hasenhuttl introduced Aribo as a striker in place of Scotland star Che Adams, suggesting those cameos up top for Rangers could become a regular occurrence at Southampton. His 25 minute outing was rated as a 7/10 by our colleagues at Hampshire Live. Aribo has joined two former Celtic stars in Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi at St Mary's, but the former was giving nothing away when asked their Glasgow allegiances. Armstrong said: "We don't talk about that!"
The Scotland midfielder did, however, admit he's been well impressed by Aribo since his arrival. He said: "I didn't want to speak to him as soon as he came in.
"I thought I'd let him lie for a week, and then you can see in training the quality he has and he's very powerful, strong, technical, keeps the ball tight, very composed with his movement and his passing. So yeah a very good addition, experienced and we're very happy with him."
