Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are set to captivate audiences once again in the highly-anticipated Joker 2 trailer. The latest glimpse of Joker: Folie À Deux, released on Tuesday, offers a sneak peek into the upcoming sequel to the Academy Award-winning film Joker from 2019. Director Todd Phillips teases viewers with what they can expect in this new installment.
In the trailer, Phoenix's character, Arthur Fleck, finds himself being hailed as a martyr and facing the trial of the century. As he grapples with newfound fame, he is joined by Lady Gaga's Harley Quinn, who provides him with a sense of companionship, telling him, 'You can do anything you want. You're Joker.'
Fleck/Joker is depicted in court, defiantly proclaiming, 'I will no longer allow any of you to keep me down!' In Joker: Folie À Deux, Fleck is institutionalized at Arkham as he awaits trial for his actions as Joker. It is within these walls that he discovers true love and the music that has always resided within him, according to Warner Bros.
The title of the film, Folie à Deux, refers to a mental disorder that affects two or more individuals, often within the same family. Phillips initially teased the project with an Instagram post featuring Phoenix in character in December 2022, followed by a first look at Lady Gaga's character on Valentine's Day 2023. The first trailer made its debut in April.
Phillips, along with Scott Silver, co-wrote Joker 2 and serves as a producer on the film. The cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz reprising her role from the original Joker. Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner are also producers alongside Phillips, with a team of executive producers that includes Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Silver, Mark Friedberg, and Jason Ruder. Lady Gaga contributes as a music consultant.
Joker: Folie À Deux is scheduled for a worldwide release by Warner Bros. Pictures in theaters on October 4, 2024, promising to deliver another thrilling chapter in the Joker saga.
