Joan Laporta has suggested that Barcelona will attempt to sign Manchester City star Bernardo Silva as a potential replacement for Frenkie de Jong - amid ongoing interest in the Netherlands international from Manchester United.
De Jong, 25, remains the priority target for Erik ten Hag after United secured deals for Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. Their ongoing push for De Jong has not been straightforward, despite United reaching an agreement in principle for the Dutchman.
United sources indicate that deferred wages owed to the player have caused a major stumbling block. However, key figures at Old Trafford continue to pursue De Jong due to lingering concerns over alternative options should the player not sign.

Speaking to reporters on Monday at an unveiling for Barcelona signing Jules Kounde, Laporta was asked directly about City player Bernardo amid suggestions the Catalan giants could move for him. Laporta said: "First we have to register the players and get rid of those who don't count. Then we'll see what we can do."
Despite much-publicised debts, Barcelona have completed several high-profile additions during the window. However, there are concerns over registering their new players should De Jong - or others - not agree to a pay cut or leave the Nou Camp.
