Joachim Andersen receives death threats as Crystal Palace star reveals online abuse after Darwin Nunez clash

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has revealed the appalling extent of abuse he suffered online after his altercation with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.

In Monday night’s 1-1 draw at Anfield, Nunez was sent off for headbutting the Danish centre-back following a number of tussles between the pair - prompting a tirade of death threats and more from hundreds of Instagram users.

He wrote: “Got maybe 3-400 of these messages last night. I understand you support a team but have respect and stop act tough online [sic].”

A lengthy set of threats, accusations and abusive insults, including “I will kill you”, received via his Instagram private messages were posted by Andersen as he called on the authorities to take action.

“Hope Instagram and the Premier League do something about this,” he added.

The people behind the 17 examples of abuse showcased by Andersen appeared to originate from a variety of countries, including the UK, and were all men of varying ages.

Liverpool, Crystal Palace, the Premier League and Instagram are yet to comment publicly on the matter.
