Harry Potter author JK Rowling slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin in a tweet on March 25, as he compared the West's treatment of his country to a public backlash Rowling faced for her views on transgender issues.
On March 25, in a video conference with people from the arts, literature, and cultural sector, Putin said that the Western states were trying to "cancel" his country with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. He then compared Russia's treatment to the public criticism Rowling had for her views on transgender rights. It's noted that Rowling has been criticized after saying she supported transgender rights but did not believe in “erasing” the concept of biological sex.
