JJ Watt and wife Kealia disagree on Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate

NFL legend JJ Watt and former USWNT international wife Kealia Ohai Watt have each weighed in on the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo debate.

Monday (May 1) saw the couple announce their investment in Premier League team-to-be Burnley, and are already taking on the big questions in the sport. Picking between World Cup winner Messi and five-time Champions League winner Ronaldo split them during a quick-fire question and answer session with the club's in-house media team.

Kealia was the first to respond, choosing Ronaldo before JJ exhaled and instead opted for Messi. The disagreement drew oohs from behind the camera before the couple smiled and faced each other before the questions continued.

Before being asked to pick between the two greatest players of their generation, the couple had agreed on their answers up to that point. After instantly agreeing on favouring 'football' over 'soccer', despite Kealia previously playing for the Houston Dash and Chicago Red Stars in the United States National Women's Soccer League.

Next up, neither could pick between the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans, the two teams JJ played for during a 12-year career before retiring from the sport late last year. The former defensive end jokingly claimed it was unfair picking between the pair.

Picking between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes proved much more straightforward. Both went for Brady, with JJ declaring him the greatest of all time.

Another American football question followed when they had to pick between the World Cup and the Super Bowl. Kealia, understandably as a three-time USWNT international, picked the World Cup, but so did JJ, despite trying but falling short of reaching the Super Bowl over the previous 12 years.

The line of questioning then turned to food. Both, perhaps surprisingly, picked pie over a hotdog, much to the interviewer's appreciation.

After being told they should try one in the coming days, JJ revealed they already had, sampling a steak and ale pie the previous night. The Q&A concluded with the most straightforward question when asked to pick between Burnley and their local rivals, Blackburn Rovers.

JJ scoffed at the question, replying: "Up the Clarets! Come on," as Kealia nodded in agreement. The two have been present around the club and attended Burnley's 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic earlier this season.

They will also attend another game, Monday's (May 8) final match of the Championship regular season at Turf Moor. That will be their first opportunity since formally joining the ownership group.

Former Wall Street financier Alan Pace chairs the club after leading the US consortium ALK Capital which took over them on New Year's Eve 2020. After being relegated from the Premier League last season, the Clarets are returning to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
