Jimmy Kimmel skewers Melania Trump’s UN Security Council meeting: ‘Those poor translators’

Jimmy Kimmel has skewered Melania Trump’s appearance at the UN, ripping her for promoting peace while President Trump continues to bomb Iran.

The late-night star mocked the first lady’s pronunciation of some words before lamenting, “Those poor UN translators.”

“This is the first time ever that a first lady has presided over a Security Council meeting less than 72 hours after her husband started a war,” Kimmel said in his show on Monday evening.

The late-night host poked fun at the first lady's glammed-up appearance, which included a gray Dior jacket, a matching wool skirt, a black Dior leather belt, and Christian Louboutin stilettos. The jacket is available online for $985.

“It looks like the worst season of The Bachelorette yet,” Kimmel said. “But even though it was her first time, Melania handled it like a seasoned old pro.”

He then played a series of clips from the meeting, beginning with the first lady’s introduction, where she stumbled over the words “Security Council” and gaveled it in as the “ten thousand, one hundred and thirteen meeting” rather than the thirteenth.

Melania Trump is Slovenian, and English is not her first language.

“My husband wanted to be here,” said Kimmel, putting on an accent to mimic the first lady, “but your escalator is trying to kill him.”

That was a reference to the president’s anger over the couple’s visit to the UN last September, when he raged about being caught on a malfunctioning escalator and experiencing technical glitches with his teleprompter and microphone as he spoke.

While the first lady avoided a further escalator mishap on Monday, Kimmel pointed out the appearance was rich with irony amid the death toll from her husband’s war.

The Iranian death toll has risen to 787, Iran's Red Crescent said on Tuesday, and six Americans have been confirmed killed as the conflict escalates across the Middle East.

“The first lady was there reportedly to promote education, and as a means to advance tolerance and peace around the world,” Kimmel said, at times laughing and raising his eyebrows.

Melania Trump opened her remarks at the meeting on children, technology, and education with condolences to those who had lost loved ones and a smooth recovery to those injured in this “challenging time.”

“The U.S. stands with all of the children throughout the world. I hope soon peace will be yours,” she added.

After critiquing the first lady’s appearance, Kimmel returned to mocking her mispronunciation.

The comedian suggested she may have started a trend with her version of ‘significant’, which she mistakenly pronounced as ‘signifisant,’ although he joked that perhaps ‘Signifisant’ was her “new signature perfume.”

Kimmel also laughed over her mispronunciation of ‘democratizing.’

“Those poor UN translators. I mean, how do you say ‘democratinizing’ in Chinese? In fairness, she had a very long day trying on hats.”

Kimmel has been a long-time critic of the Trumps, with the president raging that he has ‘NO TALENT’ and should be canceled.

Trump temporarily got his wish when Jimmy Kimmel Live! was “indefinitely” suspended last September after on-air comments about the killing of Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk.

The move to pull the program sparked widespread backlash, protests and public debate about free speech, leading to it being reinstated days later.
