An ice storm hit Ann Arbor, Mich., on Wednesday night, putting police officers on the lookout for fallen debris on area roadways.
One officer, Howard Cooper, was struggling to clear a tree that had fallen and blocked an intersection when he was joined by a good Samaritan who came to assist. Unbeknownst to officer Cooper at first, that good Samaritan was Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Ann Arbor Police Department posted a video of the moment via Twitter on Thursday and thanked Harbaugh for his help.
“To the surprise of Ofc Cooper, the good Samaritan was @CoachJim4UM who wanted to help clear the road,” the tweet read. “Ofc Cooper then gave Coach a pair of work gloves and the two of them went to work. After about ten minutes they were able to, inch by inch, get the entire tree moved to clear a lane for traffic to pass through. We thank Coach Harbaugh for being a valued member of the Ann Arbor community and helping out Ofc Cooper.”
In the video, Harbaugh can be seen lifting up the tree with officer Cooper while ice continues to pour down. Then the Wolverines coach picked up smaller branches and sticks that were obstructing the road.
Officer Cooper tells Harbaugh he’s a “good man,” and Harbaugh jokingly replied “Feel free to spread the word on that.”
