Jim Goodwin ruling stuns Aberdeen as furious Dons set to appeal SFA mega ban

Aberdeen are "extremely disappointed" after boss Jim Goodwin was slapped with a mammoth eight-game ban - and are set to appeal the decision.

The Dons boss incurred the SFA 's wrath following a scathing blast directed at Hibs and Scotland defender Ryan Porteous in September. Goodwin branded Porteous a "blatant cheat" in the aftermath of his side's 3-1 Premiership defeat at Easter Road, with the Irishman furious at what he believed to be a dive from the Easter Road star that resulted in a penalty and a second booking for on-loan Celtic star Liam Scales.

Goodwin was later charged by Hampden bosses and they've now come down hard on the ex-St Mirren manager, issuing an eight-game ban, albeit with two matches suspended. That's prompted a frosty reaction from Pittodrie, with the club admitting they've been left dismayed by the severity of the sanction. An Aberdeen statement said: "After being informed of the decision of the tribunal in today’s disciplinary hearing against Jim Goodwin, the club is extremely disappointed at the level of sanction imposed on Jim and are taking it very seriously.

"We do not expect to get the written reasons behind the decision until next week, but we will be appealing this decision. Meanwhile, Jim will be banned from the dugout for the Dundee United game."
