Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has told Rangers and Celtic "welcome to our world" after both clubs were beaten convincingly in the Champions League group stage.
Ange Postecoglou's men faced off against Real Madrid at Parkhead, and despite impressing in the first half Celtic eventually fell to a 3-0 defeat to the European champions. Rangers were next up in Amsterdam but couldn't muster a challenge as an impressive Ajax ran out 4-0 winners, with Ibrox boss Gio van Bronckhorst insisting the financial disparity between Europe's elite and the Scottish Premiership sides would make it tough to compete.
However, the Pittodrie gaffer was quick to point out the irony of the complaint with both clubs set to domestic duties this weekend. Aberdeen will kick-off the SPFL action on Saturday when they welcome The Light Blues to the Granite City. Goodwin told Sky Sports: "I always find it funny when managers from either side of the Old Firm come out and talk about financial gulfs.
"I mean, welcome to the world of the other 10 Scottish Premiership clubs. It is what it is at the end of the day.
"I think here at Aberdeen I've got good resources available to me, but they are obviously not at the same level Rangers and Celtic have got available to them. But, we make do with what we have got available to us.
"We have a fantastic training facility. We've got great plans for the stadium in the coming years, and there is an air of positivity about the city because of the football club.
"We sit third at the moment, which is where we want to be as a minimum. But if we win on Saturday we go level on points with Rangers, and you just never know what can happen."
