Jill Halfpenny praises Geordie Hospital stars after narrating new Channel 4 show

Jill Halfpenny paid a very Geordie tribute to the stars of Geordie Hospital as she narrated the first episode of the new Channel 4 show.

The six part series gives millions of viewers a fly on the wall look at some of Newcastle's busiest hospitals, including the RVI and Freeman, as cameras follow hard working members of staff from a whole host of departments.

And as well as stars of the show like urology nurse Sean, chaplain Katie and her dog Poppy Jingles having the primetime TV spotlight shone on them, former Byker Grove and EastEnders actress Jill also has a big part to play, as she is the voice of Geordie Hospital.

Urging people to tune into the first part, Jill took to Twitter to post: "Ten minutes until Geordie Hospital . Loads of lush people being fixed by other lush people."

One of her fans replied: "I was making myself & my Mum a cuppa. She had the TV on & I said 'That sounds like Jill Halfpenny!'

"Of course I was correct! We both watched this & it touched us both that the little boy 'Kit' got his awaited heart transplant. Children's wards break my heart!"

As well as heart transplant patient Kit, episode 1 gave viewers some very touching moments as Sunderland woman Debra donated a kidney to sister Kimberley and Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, Isma, removing a tumour from 76-year-old, Terry after it damaged his eyesight.

There will be more to come in episode 2 when Neurophysiotherapist, Rachel, helps a man called Jason learn to walk again after a serious accident at work and eight-year-old Violet’s life is transformed by corrective surgery to her feet, which should help with her walking, and help her feel more comfortable at school.
