Jharkhand: 5 held with ₹3 lakh worth illicit liquor in Bokaro

BOKARO: Five persons were arrested with over 1,200 illegal liquor bottles worth Rs 3 lakh stacked at a two-wheeler showroom on Chas Bypass.

The accused were identified as Nitesh Kumar of Giridih, Rajiv Bhagat of BS City area co-operative colony, Sanjeev Singh of Sector 2, Ratneshwar Thakur of Sector 1, and Shankar Bhagat of Chas.

Chas police station OC Rampravesh Kumar said, “They have been charged with illegal hoarding and selling of liquor.”

Chas SDO Dilip Singh Shekhawat said the accused were part of a syndicate that once owned liquor stores. “After the implementation of the new liquor policy, the liquor business went into the hands of the government and these traders, rather than depositing the unsold stocks at the excise department, chose to sell them off secretly,” he added.
