JFC extend contract of U17 WC star Jitendra

Jamshedpur FC on Tuesday announced the contract extension of midfielder Jitendra Singh that will see the India U17 World Cup player stay on at the club till 2024.

"I feel really happy to continue with Jamshedpur FC. I really love this club, the management, and the fans. I want to achieve more trophies with the club," said Jitendra after signing the dotted line in a statement.

Speaking of what he wants to achieve in the coming season, the young midfielder said, "My goal is to get a call-up for the national team. To achieve that, I need to play all the games and try to reach the playoffs with Jamshedpur FC once again."

Born in Uttarakhand, Jitendra moved to Kolkata with his family to start his career in football and was part of the AIFF Elite Academy batch that was preparing for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in India. After the tournament, he was selected to play for the Indian Arrows.

He joined Jamshedpur in the 2018 summer transfer window and was loaned out to Indian Arrows for more exposure. After completing his loan stint, Jitu made his debut for Jamshedpur in an epic 1-0 win against FC Goa in Goa. Since then, he has grown as a player over the years and was one of the vital cogs in the midfield as JFC finished on top in the ISL table last season.

"It personally means a lot to me. I just need to keep my head down and keep working hard and growing. I know I can do even better than what I am doing now," added Jitendra.

While he has been impressive under Owen Coyle, he will be working under JFC's new English coach this time around Aidy Boothroyd and he is more than excited for the opportunity.

"Aidy is a coach who has developed top young players and I'm so excited to train under his guidance. I believe he will help me to take my game to the next level going forward," said the youngster.
