The Secure Community Network (SCN), a consortium of Jewish community security officials nationwide, is closely monitoring protest developments on college campuses. The organization is urging administrators to restore calm and order as at least 20 significant protests are reportedly underway.
SCN is actively monitoring safety and security conditions to assess potential escalation and impact on Jewish students, faculty, and staff. In a recent statement, the organization highlighted that threat watchers have tracked a record 516 threat incident and suspicious activity reports on campuses in 2023.
SCN's National Director & CEO, Michael Masters, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order on campuses. He stressed the need for schools to implement and enforce strict anti-tent and anti-encampment policies, along with zero tolerance for assaults on students or police. Collaboration with law enforcement and students is also crucial to creating a safe environment.
Masters warned that universities must take action to prevent situations from escalating further. Failure to enforce these rules could lead to an increase in protests and potential disruptions on campus.
