Jets sign guard/center Wes Schweitzer

The Jets added some versatility to the interior of their offensive line with their signing of free-agent Wes Schweitzer.

Schweitzer has played six seasons in the NFL, three with the Atlanta Falcons and three with the Washington Commanders. He started six games in Washington last season and has 60 career starts out of 80 games.

Schweitzer brings a lot of help in terms of having experience at all five positions on the offensive line, but has spent most of his time and will help the most on the inside, potentially at guard.

We talked to Bryan Manning, editor of Commanders Wire, and got some insight on Schwietzer.

“Schweitzer is an excellent swing guy. Can play all three interior positions. Better at guard. Tried center some due to all of the issues the past two seasons and struggled snapping the ball. I like him as a guard. Crazy strong. Loves rock climbing, which is funny for a big guy. He was better than the two guards used last year but he dealt with a concussion. Solid player. Good locker-room guy. Ideally, he’s your top reserve at guard but he can play. I liked him.”

Laken Tomlinson and Alijah-Vera Tucker look set at the two starting guard positions, but now the Jets have a quality backup and someone that could move to center if need be.
