Jets' Owner Nixed Jerry Jeudy Trade Due To Low Madden Rating

The New York Jets are 4-10 and will miss the postseason.

It has been an awful season for the Jets. They fired head coach Robert Saleh midseason. Then acquired WR Davante Adams to improve their offense. Aaron Rodgers returned after tearing his Achilles last year. Still, they have had a disastrous season.

Below, we discuss the story coming out of the Athletic that owner Woody Johnson nixed a trade for WR Jerry Jeudy due to a low Madden rating.

Woody Johnson Nixed Trade For WR Jerry Jeudy Due To Low Madden Rating

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Zack Rosenblatt, and Michael Silver, owner Woody Johnson nixed a trade for WR Jerry Jeudy due to low Madden ratings.

The athletic staff notes that Woody Johnson was looking at the game tape with team decision-makers last February to try to find a WR to acquire. Jerry Jeudy flashed on the screen. According to someone familiar with the meeting, Jets GM Joe Douglas expressed interest. Johnson took out his phone and started typing.

A few weeks passed, and Douglas and Broncos GM George Paton were in deep negotiations for a trade that would have sent Jeudy to the Jets for future HOF QB Aaron Rodgers. The Broncos felt a deal was near. It fell apart abruptly and Denver executives could not believe the reason why.

According to the Athletic staff, Douglas told the Broncos that Johnson did not want to make the trade because the owner felt Jeudy’s player rating in EA Sports’ Madden NFL video game was not high enough. The Broncos ultimately traded Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns. In week 15, Jeudy crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career.

The Jets have the longest playoff drought in the NFL. They have not made the playoffs in 13 years. This season has showcased the dysfunctional organization.

The Athletic staff writes: “They keep on doing the same thing over and over: they change the football people. The football people are not the issue,” one former executive said. “It’s, ‘Hey, I have brain cancer.’ And, ‘Well, just cut off your foot.’”

Woody Johnson declined The Athletic’s request for comment.

Where Do The Jets Go From Here

This is a pretty damning article by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Zack Rosenblatt, and Michael Silver.

This makes Woody Johnson seem clueless.

Russini has not shied away from reporting negative information regarding Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.

This information by the Athletic makes it seem like as long as Woody Johnson is the owner, the Jets do not have a bright future.

Considering the Jets have not made the playoffs in 13 years, they would be painting a correct picture.

Whoever leaked this information out of the organization did so to make Johnson look bad.

The Jets seem to not have a plan for the future. They have an aging QB, no real head coach, and an owner making decisions based on a video game.
