Jets interested in hosting Black Friday game annually

The New York Jets are a part of the league’s first game played on Black Friday this season when they take on the Miami Dolphins on November 24. But it may not be the only time they play on Black Friday.

NFL executive Mike North told Adam Schefter on his podcast that the Jets have shown interest in hosting the game on an annual basis.

“The Jets, once they found out they were the host team, then started to think about, ‘Hey, is this something we could make a permanent fixture as part of the NFL schedule?'” North said, via ESPN. “Maybe they didn’t raise their hands in February, but now that they have been selected as the Black Friday host, I think they might be interested in it, too.”

Being in the biggest retail market in the country helped the Jets be one of the teams to land their game. The league also looked into an Eagles-Giants matchup and the Cincinnati Bengals also expressed interest in hosting the game, as Bengals-Steelers or Bengals-Ravens was also considered.

The league wants to essentially test run this Black Friday idea this season before making a decision on whether a team will permanently host this game similar to the Lions and Cowboys hosting games on Thanksgiving. But it is interesting to think about the possibility of the Jets being the annual fixture on Black Friday.
