The Jets want to keep two of their top impending free agents.
New York has been talking to representatives for WR/KR Braxton Berrios and DT Folorunso Fatukasi, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. Cimini added that the Jets have been talking to Fatukasi’s agents for several months, though both players seem likely to hit the open market.
Berrios, 26, set himself up for a sizeable payday in 2021, earning All-Pro honors as a kick returner and cementing himself as a versatile playmaker toward the end of the season. Robert Saleh already said he wants Berrios to stick around, and the Swiss Army knife has not ruled out a return.
“I love the organization here, the coaching staff, the people in the locker room, the chefs, the trainers,” Berrios said on Jan. 5. “So obviously that is on the table – I’d love to be here.”
Fatukasi made similar comments at the end of the season, though he also made it clear that he didn’t know what to expect this offseason. As is the case with Berrios, money will have a huge impact on a potential reunion.
“We don’t know what the future may hold,” Fatukasi said on January 11. “As we know, this league is unpredictable. You don’t know. I can’t make any decisions or see the future. I’ll take it day by day and we’ll see what happens.”
Fatukasi, who turns 27 in March, has been one of the NFL’s top run-stuffers over the last few years. The Far Rockaway native recorded a career-high 45 tackles and six QB hits in 2021. He added five TFLs and failed to record a sack over 15 games.
