After losing Aaron Rodgers to an ankle injury early in Monday’s season opener, Jets coach Robert Saleh strongly indicated following the game that the star quarterback may be in for a dire diagnosis regarding his Achilles in the coming days.
A wild 22–16 overtime home win over the Bills took a backseat moments after the final whistle, with glaring questions surrounding Rodgers, who exited four snaps into New York’s opening drive after taking a sack from Buffalo’s Leonard Floyd.
With Rodgers seen wearing a walking boot despite receiving negative X-rays, Saleh announced the club fears the 39-year-old’s upcoming MRI on Tuesday could confirm the team’s reported belief of a worst-case scenario: a torn Achilles.
“Concerned with his Achilles,” Saleh told reporters. “MRI’s probably gonna confirm what we think is already gonna happen, so, prayers tonight. But, it’s not good.”

While Saleh’s comment is far from a confirmation, his update, combined with the decision to quickly rule out Rodgers and his noticeable limp after the injury, suggests Tuesday’s update could be as disastrous as the start to Monday’s victory.
