A Jet2 flight to Manchester Airport was forced to divert to Brussels due to a serious medical emergency.

Shannon, from Northern Moor, was on the flight heading home with her two-year-old daughter. She said there there were 'about five ambulances, some fire engines and a police car waiting' on the tarmac in Brussels.

"The flight was on time from Bodrum. We ended up doing an emergency landing to Brussels", she said.

"There was about five ambulances, fire engines and a police car waiting. We landed and got taken into the airport but we've had no information, there's people with young children and people in wheelchairs here.

"They said it was an emergency medical incident. There's been no communication and we feel like we've been dragged from pillar to post.

"We weren't able to get our bags from the plane so I haven't even been able to get more nappies for my daughter."

Shannon said the flight was due to leave Brussels and head back to Manchester at around 9am this morning. The M.E.N has seen two text messages sent by the airline to passengers. The first said: "We are sorry that due to a medical onboard your flight has diverted to Brussels. We will update you shortly."

The second message read: "We are sorry your flight today has been delayed due to a serious medical situation. Your flight will now depart at 10:00 on Wednesday 28th September 2022.

"Due to the length of the delay, we will reimburse you for related reasonable costs. Simply keep and send your receipts and include your booking reference.

"You can claim up to £20 per person as a meal allowance (excluding alcohol). You'll receive a refund for these costs within 14 days of us processing your request. Thanks for your patience and understanding."

A Jet 2 spokesperson said: “Flight LS984 from Bodrum to Manchester diverted to Brussels Airport as a precautionary measure, due to a member of the flight deck feeling unwell. "The aircraft landed safely, and a replacement crew has been arranged to fly customers home to Manchester. We would like to apologise to anyone affected by this unforeseen delay.”
