Jet2 and easyJet issue 'delay and disruption' warning for passengers headed to France

Those who are flying to or from France, or who have flights that connect in France, have been issued a warning over possible 'delays and disruption'.

Popular airlines Jet2 and easyJet have both warned that flights could be impacted by French Air Traffic Control strikes, which will be ongoing until March 24. EasyJet in particular have urged passengers to check their travel ahead of time, and have confirmed that they will contact customers whose flights are cancelled directly via email and SMS.

As reported by the Echo, this comes after France's President Emmanuel Macron used special constitutional powers to force through a bill which raises the retirement age from 62 to 64.

In a statement, easyJet said: "We expect that there will be delays and some disruption due to the industrial action, therefore we advise all customers to check the status of their flight on our flight tracker either on our mobile app or website.

"We recommend all customers allow plenty of extra time to get to the airport and consider alternative transport options where possible.

"Although this situation is outside of our control, we would like to apologise to any affected passengers for the inconvenience caused."

Jet2 also issued a statement saying their UK-based operations teams were "working hard" to minimise any delays.

There may be further disruption to public transport amid the pension strikes as further sectors stage walkouts. Meanwhile, Ryanair are demanding that the EU step in to force France to provide a minimum service.

"The European Commission has done nothing on this," Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson told Politico. The budget airline has claimed that the fresh strikes have disrupted nearly 1 million passengers.
