Jesse Presents His New Project As His Sister Joy Huerta Tearfully Faces the Future: Is Jesse & Joy Really Over?

Jesse Huerta has taken again to social media to explain the new musical project he plans to pursue outside the Grammy-winning that made him and his sister Latin music royalty for almost two decades. Less than a day before, Joy Huerta stood alone before reporters, fighting back tears as she admitted she was terrified about the future of Jesse & Joy.

The contrasting scenes intensified questions about what really happened between the siblings and whether Jesse & Joy, as fans have known it for more than two decades, is officially over.

The answer is complicated. Jesse is leaving the duo indefinitely, but Joy has decided to continue performing under the Jesse & Joy name. Meanwhile, Jesse is moving forward with Jesse and the Supernovas, a project he insists was planned before his departure and did not cause the split.

Joy addressed the uncertainty during a solo press conference on Tuesday. She revealed that she learned about her brother's decision only 20 minutes before he announced it publicly.

"I'm still processing it. It's too much information," she said. "He has his motives and his reasons. All I can do is respect him. I cannot speak for him."

Joy said she loves her brother and supports his decision, but acknowledged that facing the future without the person with whom she built her career is frightening.

"The person with whom I built all of this is not here," she said. "I have to process that I don't know what is going to happen, whether 10,000 people will show up, whether 10 will come or whether one person will come. But I know that I will go out and sing for whoever is there."

She later made her intentions unmistakable: Jesse & Joy will continue.

"I'm scared to death, but if the public wants to continue singing with me, I want to continue singing with you," Joy said.

The singer confirmed that she will perform at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional on Dec. 6 and fulfill the concerts scheduled for the remainder of 2026 and throughout 2027. Jesse will complete the duo's existing commitments through Dec. 5 but will not participate in the Dec. 6 concert.

Joy also made a symbolic promise about the future of the stage show.

"In Montreal, I told you that the stage would always have two microphones," she wrote on social media. "And that is how it will be."

Shortly after Joy's emotional appearance, Jesse released a statement explaining his absence from the press conference and reiterating that his decision was driven by an urgent need to protect his well-being.

"If this decision were not necessary, I would not walk away from something so beautiful, from all our songs and from something to which I have dedicated more than half of my life," he wrote.

Jesse said Joy would always have his love and support, but his departure has inevitably drawn more attention to Jesse and the Supernovas, the separate musical venture he is preparing.

The timing led some fans to believe the new band was the real reason he left Jesse & Joy. Jesse directly rejected that interpretation.

"I want to clarify something because I see that two things are being confused," he wrote. "When I spoke about making space to take care of myself, my physical and mental health and my family, I never said I was stepping away from music."

According to Jesse, Jesse and the Supernovas had been planned, scheduled and discussed for months. He said both Joy and their professional team knew about it before he announced his departure.

The project was also mentioned publicly earlier in 2026, when Jesse revealed that he was developing an alternative musical venture and preparing an album titled Sombrero. At that point, it was presented as a parallel project rather than a replacement for Jesse & Joy.

"Jesse and the Supernovas was not born after this decision," he said. "My sister and my team knew about it."

Jesse compared his relationship with music to that of a carpenter who temporarily changes the way he works but does not stop touching wood. Creating music, he argued, does not contradict his need to leave the duo and change the rhythm of his personal life.

"Music is what I do, but it is also part of how I live, who I am, how I process what I feel and how I find peace," he wrote.

He also denied abandoning Joy, their employees or their fans, stressing that he made the decision during one of the strongest periods of their career rather than amid professional failure.

Still, Joy's revelation that she received only 20 minutes' notice before the public announcement has fueled speculation about how the separation was handled. Jesse has asked fans and commentators to avoid attacking his family or turning the situation into a public confrontation.

Behind the uncertainty is a partnership that shaped Latin pop for more than 20 years.

Jesse and Joy Huerta began writing music together as teenagers and formed Jesse & Joy in Mexico City in 2005. Their debut album, Esta Es Mi Vida, arrived in 2006 and introduced audiences to "Espacio Sideral."

Joy's distinctive lead vocals and Jesse's work as a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist became the foundation of hits including "¡Corre!," "Dueles," "Me Voy," "La de la Mala Suerte" and "¿Con Quién Se Queda el Perro?"

The siblings went on to win six Latin Grammy Awards and a Grammy, tour internationally and build one of the most recognizable catalogs in Spanish-language pop. Their most recent album, Lo Que Nos Faltó Decir, was released in 2025.

Both musicians had already begun expanding creatively outside the duo. Joy composed the score for Real Women Have Curves: The Musical with Benjamin Velez, earning a 2025 Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score. Jesse's next chapter will include Jesse and the Supernovas, although its complete lineup, release schedule and musical direction have not been disclosed.

So, is Jesse & Joy over?

The partnership between Jesse and Joy as an active performing duo is ending for an indefinite period. Jesse has not announced a return date, and Joy is preparing to lead the project without him. The Jesse & Joy name, however, will remain alive through Joy, the existing band, their scheduled concerts and the songs they created together.

For now, there will still be two microphones onstage. Only one of them is guaranteed to have someone standing behind it.
