Jesse Marsch is now one month into his reign as Leeds United manager with the international break allowing for a recharge of the batteries after a hectic few weeks. Marsch was thrown straight into the deep end at Elland Road, taking charge of four matches in 13 days – in which he won two and lost two.
Given how unique former boss Marcelo Bielsa was, there have already been some notable differences – particularly off the pitch. Bielsa was often very careful with the way he handled the media, whereas Marsch has so far been more open, though the fact English is his first language helps significantly.
Team selection wise, Marsch has put his own stamp on proceedings in terms of system, however he has remained similar to Bielsa in the fact senior players are more trusted at the moment than youngsters. For example, Daniel James has continued to play regularly as a striker, while Robin Koch has also featured mainly as a midfielder.

It is perhaps from a substitution perspective where the biggest difference has been in terms of the football side of things. Taking Rodrigo off for Koch with half an hour still to play against Norwich and the game at 1-0 is probably a move that Bielsa would not have made, though the anxiety of getting that first win under his belt may have clouded judgement in that particular situation.
Tactically, Marsch has tended to remain true to his principles regardless of how the game is going – even at 3-2 up against Wolves in stoppage time Leeds refused to sit back, which is a trait similar to that of Bielsa.
