Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch faces an anxious wait to see if he will be absent from the touchline for next week’s game against Nottingham Forest at Elland Road. The Whites will be looking to end their run of three matches without a win after a disappointing 5-2 defeat at Brentford on Saturday.
The game in the capital was of particular frustration to Marsch, who was incensed by a number of decisions that went against Leeds. Firstly, he was aggrieved by the decision by VAR to award Brentford a penalty for Ivan Toney’s opener.
But it was Leeds’ denial of a second half penalty which angered Marsch the most, as Crysencio Summerville went down in the area under clear contact from the defender. Both the referee and VAR waved Leeds’ appeals away, with Marsch venting his disapproval at the linesman and fourth official which saw him shown a red card by Robert Jones.

As a result of that, Marsch could incur a one-match touchline ban - as is customary for a manager receiving a red card - meaning he may have to watch Leeds’ game with Forest from the stands, depending on if and when the suspension is sanctioned.
Marsch spoke of his frustration at the standard of officiating after the game at Brentford, claiming he does not understand how officials come to their conclusions on certain decisions.
He said: “Yeah, I mean, I was calm even when Brentford was given the penalty, even though I didn't see it right away. Normally when the phrasing and verbiage is ‘clear and obvious’, and it takes that long to watch it and look at it and it's not so clear then normally for me it's not clear and obvious and then when I see it after the halftime I don't believe it's a penalty and if it is it's an incredibly soft one.
“I was told by the referee committee and by the league in our managers’ meeting before the season started that the threshold for penalties was going to go up. So that was not for me represented by that decision.
“Then in an action where I think Crysencio Summerville is actually more of an egregious foul and it doesn't even get looked at for VAR. Yeah, clearly dissatisfied. So I got to figure out how to have discussions with the league or with referees or something to help understand, you know how some decisions get made.”
