Jesse Marsch salutes 'inspiring' Celtic as Leeds boss raves about Ange Postecoglou's methods

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has praised Ange Postecoglou 's coaching nous which sparked his major Celtic rebuild.

The American coach previously waxed lyrical about the Premiership champions last summer amid their search for a new boss to succeed Neil Lennon. Marsch plumped for RB Leipzig but it proved a misstep before he ended up at Elland Road. But Marsch is a true believer in Postecoglou, citing his crystal clear philosophy behind his trophy-laden success in three continents. The 56-year-old landed a double in his first season in Scotland to add to titles in Australia, Japan and with the Socceroos at the 2015 Asian Cup.

Speaking ahead of Leeds' tour Down Under, he said: “I’m a big admirer of Ange. I think the work he has done here (in Australia), in Japan and then in Scotland has been really, really good. What a great first year he had with Celtic. I love seeing people challenge themselves.

“Have clear ideas, have teams that play in a very distinct manner and stay true to their identity. It is inspiring,”

Marsch has been a vocal advocate of the Parkhead side and sparked speculation he was keen on the vacancy Postecoglou filled during a rave review in the summer of 2021.

He said: "I've heard (about the links). It's an honour for me. Three or four years ago, being linked with a club like Celtic would literally be an impossibility for me. And now that this is where I am, I always just try to look at it in terms of, 'what would the project look like?'

"Would we have similar ideas in how to build it the right way, invest in the academy, invest in young players and create this development process that I'm talking about? And not just focus on winning. Obviously I know that when you're the coach of Celtic, winning is the most important thing."
