Jesse Lingard fires three-word message amid Nottingham Forest struggles

Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard has posted a message to Reds’ fans as he looks ahead to the remainder of the season.

The former Manchester United man arrived on a free transfer in the summer, with Forest beating off competition from the likes of West Ham United for the player. The 29-year-old signed a one year contract at the City Ground as he looks to help the club in their first year back in the Premier League for 23 years.

Having arrived to much excitement from Forest fans, Lingard’s season may not have gone as well as he would have liked so far. The midfielder has appeared in seven of Forest’s nine league games in 2022/23 but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

After playing 69 minutes of the 4-0 defeat against Leicester City last week, Lingard was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw vs Aston Villa. It was a game that saw Forest halt a run of five straight Premier League defeats.

Taking to Instagram, Lingard has given an insight into the work that goes on behind the scenes as he looks to try and recapture the form that he showed during a loan spell at West Ham. The midfielder has posted pictures of himself lifting weights and on the exercise bike in his home gym.

Alongside the pictures, Lingard wrote: “Grind don’t stop.”

Speaking ahead of the game against Villa, Forest boss Steve Cooper addressed Lingard’s frustrating start to the season, saying it was not the time to be singling out individual players.

"He’s a high-profile player but we don’t treat him differently here,” he said "He will be feeling exactly like everybody else, I’m sure, but it’s all about looking forward now and improving on what’s happened over the last few weeks, especially.

“Now is not the time to be talking about individuals. It’s really about the narrative of being together and as one, as much as we can. That’s what you do in tough times, you stick together and get out of it.”
