Jesse Lingard and Manchester United remain some way apart on how to deal with the player's future this month, according to reports.
The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a January exit.
Minutes and opportunities have remained scarce at Old Trafford and the 28-year-old knows he needs to be playing if he wants to be part of the England squad this winter.
Despite that Lingard, is only looking to leave Old Trafford on loan as he looks to keep open his options come the summer.
United though want to offload the player permanently so that they can recoup some sort of a fee rather than lose the player for nothing, reports the Telegraph.
Newcastle are among those looking to add Lingard as they attempt to flex their financial muscles.
The Magpies need to bolster their ranks as they look to fight off the threat of relegation but have seen an initial loan bid knocked back.

Newcastle are ready to return with a second loan bid, but may eventually lodge a permanent offer which is of more interest to United.
However, Lingard's interest in the permanent move is said to be limited as he prioritises a loan switch.
Eddie Howe's side have already added Chris Wood in attack and are being linked with Sevilla's Diego Carlos.
Lingard underlined his value when he went out on loan to West Ham last term.
He scored nine times in 16 games as he rediscovered his best form.
A permanent switch to the Hammers was discussed in the summer but United opted to keep the player with former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claiming he had a "big role to play".
Despite that Lingard's opportunities remained few and far between despite scoring a late winner off the bench at West Ham back in September.
Still he is yet to start a game in the Premier League but has been coy on a January exit.
United have a host of players weighing up their futures this month with Anthony Martial also among them.
Ralf Rangnick must manage a difficult situation and was quizzed on Lingard's future on Wednesday night.
"Obviously, he needs to play and train on that kind of level (so) that he’s an option to start,” said the German.
“We have a big squad, maybe a little bit too big of a squad.
"And, as far as I know, his contract is expiring in the summer, and the question is what will happen after that four months? Again, he’s a player who can play.
"I brought him on in the last 10 minutes of the Villa game, together with Donny van de Beek, and he’ll probably not be available for tomorrow because he didn't train yesterday and the day before yesterday."
