The New England Patriots have been looking for an upgrade at the wide receiver position, and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb would certainly fit into that category.
Coach Jerod Mayo was asked to weigh in on the possibility during an appearance on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday.
“We can’t talk about players on other teams, but you can put a call in,” Mayo told Jermaine Wiggins.
Lamb is currently holding out of training camp due to contract frustrations. The dynamic weapon recorded 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
The Patriots have ended their pursuit of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, per lead personnel executive Eliot Wolf. Would they consider making a call on the availability of another star wide receiver like Lamb?
It’s a long-shot option, but it’s also something worth thinking about. Lamb would be a tremendous get for a Patriots organization that desperately needs a top receiver.
Nevertheless, a move actually happening feels more like fantasy than reality. It’s hard to envision the Cowboys giving up so easily. They would be losing a major piece of their offense and one of the best receivers in all of football.
