Jermaine Jenas names two Liverpool players who 'didn't come to party' against Tottenham Hotspur

Jermaine Jenas has criticised Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for their performances against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday night.

The Liverpool pair both started in the 1-1 draw as their side’s Premier League title hopes suffered a huge setback. Although the point did move the Reds to the top of the table, it effectively handed the initiative back to Manchester City, who then moved three points clear at the summit with a 5-0 win at home to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Tottenham on the break before Luis Diaz equalised when his shot deflected off Rodrigo Bentancur with 16 minutes remaining. And speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Jenas claimed neither Salah nor Mane turned up.

The former Spurs midfielder said: “Let's not forget, Liverpool have had a very intense few weeks and months, going behind against Villarreal early on and having to come back.

“They just lacked that bit of quality, I thought, in the final third. Usually those crosses you see being picked out, they just looked disconnected.

“Star players like Salah and Mane didn't come to the party at all. Spurs were brilliant, but Liverpool had 47 crosses and 21 of them were from Alexander-Arnold.

“More often than not, it was overhit, not on the money, and when you are up against a team as well drilled as Spurs were today, you are not going to get away with it.”
