Jeremy Renner walks with cane for Jimmy Kimmel interview after horror snow plough accident

Jeremy Renner has admitted he "got lucky in a lot of ways" as he continues his recovery from his horror accident on New Year's Day.

The actor, 52, broke over 30 bones in his body as he was crushed by a snow plough and was in intensive care for over a week.

Now, however, the determined star has showed just how far he has come as he walked onto the set of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show using a walking stick.

Jeremy has regularly shared updates of himself in his recovery sessions, including walking on a specially adapted treadmill, but this is the first time he has been seen in public walking again.

The Hawkeye star emerged for the show using a cane and appeared in good spirits for the late night appearance, while his family was on hand in the audience.

He told the host he was "happy to be here" and appeared all smiles before he got into the details from the horrific incident.

Speaking of the day that almost took his life, Jeremy said he remembers "all of it" up until he was transported to a nearby hospital via helicopter in the treacherous conditions.

He told Jimmy: "'Once I got into the helicopter to [go] the hospital, that's when they jammed some sort of emergency knife or whatever they do in your chest - I don't know, that's when I was like, I got to go to sleep."

And he opened up on how he personally knew the firefighters who were first to the scene to try to save them. He revealed he heard them talk about "doing the best they could" in what sounded like a confession they weren't able to save him.

Jeremy continued: "Yes, some people thought I was dead and was going to die. I'm like, 'No, man.' I'm trying to get out of the hospital as soon as I was in it. I'm like, 'I'm out of here.'"

The star went on to admit he was actually kicked out of one hospital for being too unsettled while heavily dosed up on medication.

He admits his plan is to go back to that ward this week in a bid to apologise for his actions.

Discussing when he first realised in the hospital that he was seriously injured, he revealed he felt as though people were treating his room a "an open casket".

"Everybody is giving me a reaction," he said. "I didn't know what to say."

And he joked his actor pals Chris Evans and Paul Rudd are "terrible actors" after their reactions "made me feel like I think I really hurt myself" and he "might not pull through".
