Jeremy Renner has announced that he will release a “deeply healing” set of songs written in response to his near-fatal snowplough accident.
The Marvel actor, 52, was crushed by a snowplough on 1 January 2023 outside his home in Nevada, sustaining blunt chest trauma and several other injuries.
Renner was rushed to hospital, where he was treated for major trauma, 30 broken bones, and blood loss.
Postin on Instagram earlier this week, the Hurt Locker star teased a forthcoming new collection of songs titled Love and Titanium, explaining that writing the tracks had been a “cathartic” way of dealing with his experience.
“A collection of music we wrote about different milestones in my journey of recovery since Jan 1st this year,” he wrote. “Love and Titanium has been painful, deeply healing, and ultimately cathartic for me to create. I hope I get the courage to share with you all.”
The accompanying image simply includes the word “soon” alongside a piece of artwork.
Renner has dabbled in music before, having released two EPs – Live For Now and The Medicine – in 2020.
Back in June, Renner’s Avengers co-star Chris Hemsworth recalled the reaction of his co-stars when news of Renner’s accident first broke.
“We were all on our ‘Avengers’ text chain, we were all chatting. And it was wild,” Hemsworth said in an interview with British GQ.
“None of us really knew how serious [Renner’s accident] was. I think anything like that, it’s an immediate realisation of, ‘Wow, any of us can go at any minute…’”
“We’re getting to the age now where we’re going to start losing people we love,” Hemsworth added.
In Marvel’s hugely popular superhero franchise, Renner plays the character of Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. The actor fronted his own series on Disney+, titled Hawkeye, opposite Hailee Steinfeld.
Following Renner’s slowplough accident, several of his co-stars offered updates regarding his recovery, including Black Widow actor Scarlet Johansson, who recalled an emotional visit to her friend’s bedside.
“I was honestly so f***ing happy to see him. I didn’t know if I was ever going to see him again. To not only see him again but to see him thriving and in such an amazing space, mentally,” she said.
“He’s a very spiritual person in general and a very soulful person. And you can see that in his work. It comes through. He has such a depth to him. And I just was so happy to see that he is full of life and light, and he’s also hilarious. We laughed a lot.”
