Jeremy Clarkson launched an appeal in the early hours of this morning (Saturday March 11) for help from pig farmers after one of his animals gave birth and then showed 'signs of distress'. The host of hit show Clarkson's Farm made his appeal in a 1.30am Twitter post in which he revealed how the farm's first piglet had been born.
Clarkson, whose programme about his Diddly Squat Farm in Chipping Norton has proved popular on Amazon Prime, posted: "Pig farmers. Help. It’s been nearly two hours since our first piglet was born. The sow is in some distress. What do we do?"
He was given a wealth of advice from a number of people on Twitter. @jason_tom99 wrote: "Likely it's going to involve lubing up an arm and reaching in to pull piglets out." While @theorigpundit tried to inject a bit of humour by responding: "Tell her if she doesn’t cheer up quickly, she’ll be forced to watch a Rishi Sunak speech on a never ending loop."
@skoonrB offered a simple solution: "Walk away. Nature will do what nature does, go down in the morning and count your blessings."
Among those offering an attempt at humour was @spylinen, who shared: "Prepare some apples and sage." Another advised: "Call a vet and present MOTD tomorrow and all will be well."
Others were more cynical about Clarkson's motive. @Rocinante1997 said: "Do you really think he is asking Twitter for help. He is dropping spillers for next season and you falling for it hook line and sinker."
But @charlesnorthvi insisted: "Clarkson is genuinely asking a question and the lot of you are using humor. Have some respect y'all." And @SVucens asked probably the most pertinent question: "Do you have vets in the UK?"
