Jennifer Lopez shares fears over AI misuse after her image is 'exploited by beauty scam'

Jennifer Lopez has voiced her concern after her image was used in an artificial intelligence (AI) scam.

The American celebrity, who is currently starring in Netflix's sci-fi film Atlas which addresses issues with AI, expressed her unease about the rapid advancement of technology, especially given her high-profile status.

Speaking to Variety, the 54-year-old recalled adverts "selling skincare that I know nothing about" by allegedly using manipulated photos of her own face with "wrinkles".

Lopez shared: “It's really scary. Right away we had them stealing our faces. So, yes, [AI] is really scary.”

She acknowledged that AI has its advantages too, urging people to remain “open” to both its benefits and drawbacks.

The Hollywood star added: "I think you should be respectful of AI…We have to be open to all possibilities.

"These movies that are talking about AI — especially this one — do a really good job of showing both sides.”

As for Atlas, the singer, who plays a data analyst using AI to protect Earth from an evil robot portrayed by Simu Liu, emphasised how the movie explores both sides of the AI debate.

She continued: “I think this movie does a good job of showing how AI could go incredibly wrong, and this is how it could go really right.”

Lopez has previously voiced her concerns about the rapid rise of AI while discussing some of the film's more intense scenes.

Speaking to Extra, she shared: “I think it's a scary thing and we have to be careful about it and really think about where it's going.

“I thought it would be just me, doing the takes quickly without worrying about anyone else forgetting their lines. First day, I'm falling through planets. It's all going crazy."

Discussing the intense filming process, she added: "Then, my leg's broken... It was so high-intensity every day, and without another actor to share the energy, it was all on me.

“I was exhausted. I'd leave the Atlas set limping.”

The screen star’s comments come after she batted off a question about her marriage to Ben Affleck amid swirling rumours the Hollywood couple are heading for divorce.

Lopez has been promoting her latest film without Affleck by her side and he was notably absent from the Met Gala earlier this month, despite the fact Lopez was a co-chairwoman.
