Jennifer Lopez says cancelling her tour 'the best decision' amid Ben Affleck split

Jennifer Lopez revealed that cancelling her summer tour was the "best decision she ever made" amid her separation from husband of two years, Ben Affleck.

The 55-year-old singer called off her This Is Me... Live tour in May, initially expressing to fans how "heartbroken and devastated" she was to let them down. Divorce filings later confirmed the couple had split the previous month.

At the time, a statement explained Lopez’s choice to step away from the spotlight "to focus on her children” 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, whom she welcomed with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Reflecting on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, the star, who is currently promoting her new project, Unstoppable, shared: "'I took the summer off to be home with the kids, which is the best thing I have ever done.

“It was not like me to do that, so I always want to apologise to the fans”.

The On the Floor hitmaker recalled a heartfelt encounter with a fan just a day before her talk show appearance.

The fan told her: “'I had tickets to come and see you'. When I apologised, he said 'Don't say sorry we love you'. I started crying straight away.”

During the show, she became emotional again when it was revealed that same fan was actually in the studio audience.

Surprised, she exclaimed, "Was that you? I can't believe it," before giving him a big hug and thanking him again for his support.

In June, Live Nation announced Lopez’s 2024 summer tour was cancelled, saying: “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.”

She then addressed her fans through her On the Jlo newsletter following her separation from Ben on April 26, 2024, writing: “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down.

“Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary.

“I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again. I love you all so much. Until next time.”

News of its cancellation came amid speculation over her marriage with Affleck, whom she had split with at the time unbeknown to the public, and rumours of poor ticket sales for the tour.

The tour was initially in support of her ninth studio album This Is Me… Now and was set to kick off in Orlando on June 26.
