Jennifer Garner's blue cabinets and wooden flooring are a winning combination – designers can't get enough of this calming duo

Jennifer Garner.

We've long discussed the allure of the unpainted kitchen cabinet here at H&G, but what about color? For those who like to infuse their spaces with some vibrance, painted cabinets can be the perfect pop of color in an otherwise neutral space.

We are taking cues from none other than Jennifer Garner on this front. The 13 Going on 30 and Elektra star recently shared a clip to her Instagm page of her rustic, wooden kitchen, which features an unexpected burst of color thanks to light blue-painted cabinets.

The calming hue, with a sleek silver handle to boot, is a staple in many homes' color schemes for good reason. Thinking of decorating with blue? Read on for tips and tricks.

'Blue is universally associated with calmness, making it an ideal choice for spaces where relaxation is key,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'Light blues evoke the freshness of a summer sky or the tranquility of a still lake, fostering a peaceful atmosphere perfect for bedrooms, bathrooms, or living rooms. On the other hand, deeper blues like navy or indigo add depth and elegance, creating a sense of coziness and sophistication, particularly in dining rooms or studies.'

She continues, 'Beyond its calming influence, blue also has a grounding effect. When used as a primary color in a room, blue can anchor the space, providing a stable backdrop that allows other elements to shine. This versatility makes blue a go-to for designers seeking to create interiors that are both stylish and serene.'

As white is a natural pairing with blue, Lichtenstein recommends pairing blue-painted cabinets with a light counter shade for a peaceful environment.

'To balance the boldness of blue cabinets, pair them with white or light countertops,' she suggests. 'This contrast not only lightens the space but also highlights the rich color of the cabinets.'

Alternatively, natural materials, like the oaky wood in Garner's kitchen, are also a great material to pair with blue paint.

'Blue pairs beautifully with natural wood, which adds warmth and texture to the kitchen,' Lichtenstein says. 'Consider wood floors, shelves, or even a butcher block countertop to bring nature into the space.'

The silver handles are another Lictenstein-approved element of the kitchen.

'Brass or gold hardware adds elegance to blue cabinets,' she says. 'The warm metallics contrast beautifully with the cool tones of blue, creating a chic and timeless look.'

Finally, consider not only the colors and materials that are juxtaposing blue cabinets, but the style of the storage units in the kitchen, too.

'If you’re worried about blue cabinets making your kitchen feel too dark, consider incorporating open shelving in a lighter color,' she says. 'This not only breaks up the expanse of blue but also provides a space to showcase your favorite dishware or decor items.'

Below, we have curated some blue accessories to add vibrance and serenity to any kitchen space.

We would suggest opting for a light blue paint in the kitchen, as these are often high traffic areas. Lighters hues offer a serene ambiance to even the busiest spaces.
