Jennifer Coolidge candidly reveals her deep regrets and need for 'validation'

Jennifer Coolidge has opened up on her acting career and named a number of her biggest regrets.

The actress, 61, who played Stifler's mom in American Pie before winning a Golden Globe for her role in The White Lotus, revealed she didn't always have a sense of self belief that she would succeed in the industry.

Jennifer has had a number of big roles to her name over the years, including 2 Broke Girls on the small screen and Jennifer Lopez's Shotgun Wedding last year.

But despite so many big performances, the Legally Blonde star admitted she never really had a "strategy" when she made her breakthrough.

Speaking to fellow Hollywood star Jeremy Allen White via Variety, she said: "I just went job to job. I have to say I made the terrible mistake of not riding the wave that I had early on."

Discussing her regrets, she confessed to taking her eye off the ball when it came to her career. "I did get some jobs, but I didn’t have a plan," she revealed.

"And I think that was a fatal flaw of mine, because it took so long to get anything going later. I look back and I go, 'What was I thinking?'"

Opening up further to Jeremy, she revealed she regretted now going "show to show" in theatre in order to learn the ropes.

And she opened up on often feeling "insecure" on a job, something Jeremy said he could resonate with.

Jennifer said there wasn't a worse feeling in the industry and said she recently had the feeling when a director kept making her redo a shoot.

Jeremy chimed in: "It is upsetting, how much I feel sometimes in the moment I need validation from a director."

However, despite the pair's honest thoughts, they've both went on to have huge success in their careers. And Jeremy revealed that now, after 15 years of acting, he realises he belongs in the industry.

Jennifer previously opened up on her insecurities and self-confidence in a chat with Page Six. She told the publication in January how it stemmed from her love life.

"I mean, my dating life, I’ve never found anyone quite right for myself," she said. "I haven’t found the love of my life.

"I think I made some bad decisions. It makes you insecure and you don’t think you’re great,” she continued.
