Jendayi extends her unbeaten run to clinch Indian Oaks crown

MUMBAI: Pesi Shroff trained filly Jendayi, ably assisted in the saddle by ace British jockey Oisin Murphy, extended her unbeaten streak to four races as she easily beat her four rivals to claim the Villoo C Poonawalla Indian Oaks (Grade 1), third classic of the Mumbai Season and feature of Sunday's races.

It was an easy victory for the favourite filly, much expected after her convincing triumph in the Indian 1000 Guineas last month. "She loved this distance (2400m) and am confident she will have a bold outing in the Indian Derby in three-week's time," her rider Murphy told TOI after the race. Why did he whip her approaching the winning post when she was well clear of the field? "It was a part of the learning process for her," replied Murphy.

Shroff claims his 12th Ladies Derby riches

It was a 12th Indian Oaks crown for trainer Shroff. In fact, the champion trainer has won nine out of the last 10 editions of this ladies derby except for the year 2020 when great galloper Juliette had landed the riches.

Grand treble for Narredu father-son duo

The father-son duo of trainer Malesh Narredu and jockey Yash Narredu registered a treble through Giant King, Dash and Enabler.
