Jeffrey Wright, known for his recent Oscar-nominated role in 'American Fiction,' has been confirmed to join the cast of the upcoming film 'High and Low.' This new project is a modern retelling of the classic thriller by Akira Kurosawa and is set to be directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee. The star-studded cast will also feature the legendary Denzel Washington in a leading role.
The script for 'High and Low' has been penned by Lee and Alan Fox, promising an exciting English-language adaptation of the original story, which revolves around a wealthy man grappling with a kidnapping. Production for this Apple Original Film is scheduled to commence this month, with a theatrical release by A24 before its global launch on Apple TV+.
In addition to Washington and Wright, the cast includes Ilfenesh Hadera, known for her work on 'Billions.' The film will be produced by Todd Black of Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman of Mandalay Pictures. Lee, in addition to directing, will also serve as an executive producer through his production company, 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks.
This collaboration marks the fifth time that Lee and Washington have worked together, following their successful partnerships on films like 'Mo' Better Blues,' 'He Got Game,' 'Inside Man,' and 'Malcolm X,' which earned Washington an Oscar nomination for best actor. Washington has previously collaborated with Apple on 'The Tragedy of Macbeth,' released by A24.
Wright, a versatile actor known for his work in HBO's 'Westworld' and a range of acclaimed films, brings a wealth of talent to the project. His impressive resume includes roles in 'Basquiat,' 'Shaft,' 'The French Dispatch,' 'No Time to Die,' and the upcoming 'The Batman.'
