Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has paid tribute to Dolly Parton following the country music icon’s death, sharing a throwback photograph and remembering her as someone who led with love, generosity and joy. But the post quickly attracted criticism online, with some social media users saying Bezos should look beyond words and follow the example Parton set through her philanthropy.
Bezos shared the Instagram post after news of Parton’s death at 80 was confirmed by her nephew Bryan Seaver on Tuesday. The photograph showed Bezos with Parton during a 2022 event, when he presented her with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award.
The award came with a $100 million commitment for Parton to support causes close to her, particularly work involving children.
