A group including Jeff Bezos is becoming a minority owner in legendary English soccer team Liverpool.

Concretely, FSG will buy about a third of the club in a deal valued at about $7.1 billion, CNBC reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The outlet went on to detail that a condition of the deal means the group can become a majority shareholder at a valuation of around $8 billion over the next 12 months.

Businessman Amit Bhatia, the primary partner in the deal, will be the club's new vice chairman and join its expanded board. Bezos won't have seat on the board, but other members of the consortium will.

FSG President Mike Gordon said in a press release that "Liverpool has always been built by thinking beyond one season and making decisions with the club's long-term interests in mind."

"That approach continues to attract interest from respected investors and business leaders around the world. As we considered this opportunity, it became clear that Amit and the consortium shared our long-term philosophy and appreciation for what makes Liverpool special."

Liverpool is the fourth-most valuable soccer club in the world, according to a ranking made by CNBC. The first two are Spain's Real Madrid and Barcelona and the third is England's Manchester United.
