Jedward met former US chat show king Jay Leno hours before he was hospitalised for facial burns

Popduo Jedward have revealed they met former US chat show host Jay Leno just hours before he was hospitalised with facial burns after his car burst into flames at his LA home.

The US comedian – who owns more than 200 vehicles and motorbikes - was taken to hospital with facial burns after what his representative described as a "flash fire".

Lucan twins John and Edward Grimes revealed they had just met Jay before the fire and he was “full of good vibes”.

They said: “Sending healing energy and love to @jaylenosgarage. Just met Jay the other night and he was full of good vibes.

“We talked about cars and said he looked like a CK model in his double denim,” he said.

The 72-year-old former Tonight Show host cancelled a Las Vegas performance scheduled for Sunday night after suffering the "very serious medical emergency," People Magazine reported.

"I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet," the avid car collector said in a statement to NBC News.

It was reported Leno was taken to Grossman Burn Center for treatment, but his eye and ear were not severely damaged.

A spokesperson for the hospital said in a statement that Leno "wants everyone to know that he is in stable condition and receiving treatment" for injuries from a gasoline accident in his garage over the weekend.

"He is in good humour and is touched by all the inquiries into his condition and well wishes [and] wants to let everyone know he is doing well."

The Burbank Fire Department said in a statement it responded to an emergency call at 12:28 local time (20:28 GMT) on 12 November where they "assessed and treated one adult male patient".

After leaving the Tonight Show in 2014, he has hosted a revival of the popular US game show You Bet Your Life as well as Jay Leno's Garage on CNBC.

He also writes a regular column in Popular Mechanics magazine, showcasing his collection and giving auto advice.
