Jed Wallace comments on Millwall absence amid Nottingham Forest transfer interest

Millwall winger Jed Wallace has spoken about missing Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest, amid the Reds’ interest in signing him.

Steve Cooper’s side returned to winning ways in the Championship as they triumphed 1-0 at The Den, thanks to Lewis Grabban’s last-minute goal.

The Reds are keen to add Wallace to their ranks this month, but have been rebuffed in their attempts to snap him up so far - and they are not the only ones chasing his signature.

The 27-year-old was not included in the Lions’ matchday squad to face Forest at the weekend, though.

He had returned to training, following a quad problem, but suffered a setback in the build-up to the game and was not involved.

He last played for Millwall on December 11, in a 2-1 defeat at Peterborough United.

Replying to someone on Twitter who speculated that Wallace had refused to play, the former Portsmouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers man said: “Thankyou for your kind words, I’ve played over 200 games for Millwall & never took that for granted. Would never ever refuse to play, I’ve just had a minor setback on my injury. I’m not a robot these things happen and I’m doing all I can to get back to playing ASAP. Thankyou.”

Cooper has refused to be drawn on any talk of Wallace being a target.

Asked about it after his team’s victory in the capital, he said: “I’m not sure. I don’t get involved in that part of the club, I’m the head coach.

“I just focus on the boys that turn up to the training ground every day, and particularly the ones who are fit and available - try to get the best out of them for the next game."

And on Wallace not being included for the hosts, the Welshman added: “We only focus on ourselves.

“You come up against a lot of Championship teams who have got good players. I worked with Sheyi Ojo at Liverpool, when he signed from MK Dons. He was good in the game, I know he came off injured, and I hope it’s not too bad for him because he’s a good player.

“You know you’re going to come up against really good players. If you worry too much about the opposition, then you maybe don’t do your own job right."
