'Je suis une baguette' - Irish fan goes viral at World Cup with French faux pas

Social media was left in stitches after an Irish fan interrupted a broadcast at this year’s World Cup.

The fan, who has since been identified as Eddie O'Keefe, interrupted a live broadcast on French television with his bizarre statement. The encounter took place outside a Qatari stadium after a match.

Eddie, a young Irish man currently working in Dubai, shouted into the mic: “Je suis une baguette”, which translates to ‘I am a baguette’ in French, before racing off. The segment was airing on French TV station Canal + but the brief exchange has since gone viral on Twitter.
