Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance criticized Vice President Kamala Harris in an op-ed published on Tuesday, denouncing her support for net-zero energy policies. Vance argued that these policies would have detrimental effects on the American auto industry, worsen electricity demand, and fail to effectively address climate change.
Vance highlighted Harris's strong advocacy for the Green New Deal, contrasting her stance with President Biden's purported reluctance to fully endorse the initiative. He also criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for signing a bill that aims to transition the state to rely solely on wind and solar energy by 2040.
Expressing concerns about a potential energy crisis, Vance warned of a significant shortfall in electrical capacity and dismissed the viability of renewable energy sources like solar and wind as replacements for traditional generators.
Furthermore, Vance argued that Harris's net-zero energy policies would not only be ineffective in combating climate change but could also lead to increased energy costs for consumers and the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to China, a country known for its heavy reliance on coal.
In contrast, Vance praised former President Trump's commitment to ending net-zero energy policies and promoting a substantial expansion of American energy capacity. He outlined a vision that includes simplifying permitting processes, eliminating federal subsidies, encouraging private investment, and fostering significant growth in the energy sector.
Vance concluded by asserting that the Trump administration's approach would prioritize energy development and economic prosperity while criticizing Harris's perceived disregard for the consequences of her proposed policies.
