During the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance commented on Vice President Kamala Harris's absence, suggesting a lack of unity within the Democratic Party. Vance noted that Harris was not physically present at the convention, as she made brief remarks via live video from a campaign rally in Milwaukee, symbolically accepting the party's presidential nomination.

Vance highlighted the proximity of Harris, who was 90 miles away from the convention, while former President Barack Obama delivered a significant speech. He implied that this physical distance indicated a lack of unity within the party. Harris, however, did watch parts of the speeches from Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama while en route to Chicago on Marine Two from the Wisconsin rally.

Furthermore, Vance claimed that Obama played a role in influencing President Joe Biden's decision to not seek the 2024 Democratic nomination. He suggested that the Democratic Party's focus was more on their animosity towards former President Donald Trump rather than their love for the country. Vance criticized the party for emphasizing Trump over crucial issues such as inflation, foreign policy achievements, and the economy.

According to Vance, the Democratic Party's unity seemed to stem from their shared disdain for Trump rather than a collective vision for advancing the nation. He argued that their fixation on Trump overshadowed discussions on vital national matters. Vance also referenced an incident where Trump had recently faced a threat, implying that Trump had sacrificed for the country.
