JD Vance described UK energy prices as a “scandal” during his speech at an election rally in Hungary on Wednesday (8 April).
The US vice president has flown to the eastern European country in an attempt to shore up support for its prime minister Viktor Orban ahead of an upcoming general election.
Speaking about rising energy prices across the continent, Mr Vance questioned why “the Europeans made themselves completely dependent on unreliable sources of energy?”
He went on to critique the UK government for “underinvesting in their energy resources” and claimed that UK citizens are paying more than six times than their American counterparts.
“Isn't it a scandal that middle class Brits, that people who are working hard and playing by the rules can't afford to heat their home?”
