Jayson Tatum reflects on playing with all-time greats at the 2024 Paris Olympics

If you can make it to the NBA as a player, you might just find yourself facing off against players you grew up looking up to. And if you can stick around for a while and get good at that level, you could even end up playing alongside them in the Olympics.

And that is where star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum currently finds h8mself fresh on the heels of winning an NBA title with the team that drafted him in 2017. The St. Louis native recently broke down what it is going to be like playing alongside some of his childhood idols on a recent episode of the Wave Sports and Entertainment Original “7 PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero” podcast.

“I’ve been in a league for seven years, so I’ve played against all these guys and on that level and had to go against (Kevin Durant) in the playoffs twice and (LeBron James), and played against Steph (Curry) in the finals, so I have that level of appreciation for them,” he offered.

“Even before I got to the league, these were the guys that I was watching and now that we’re on the same team, it’s like damn,” he added. “We did photos the other day and those three went off to the side … and it’s like I had to take a step back and be like, those are three of the best players in history ever to play this game”.

“We’re all teammates right now going to try to win a gold medal and I don’t know if it was the fan or the kid in me, but that was like man, this is dope,” smiled Tatum.

“I’m on a team with KD, LeBron and Steph, even though I damn near walked in the building, I won the championship. I’m the man right now. But it’s like nah, that was a cool moment having those three on the team.”
